Food in Arawak City

One of the most important aspects of any culture is where and how they derive the food and energy upon which they subsist on. One of the biggest critiques of cities in general is that they are completely dependent upon extracting resources from the rural and natural areas that surround them and thus incapable of being self-sufficient.

Although we can't solve this problem immediately and will continue to engage in mixed methodologies for subsistence we want to help facilitate the growth of projects such as community gardens and community supported agriculture.

Four Seasons City Farm - http://fourseasonscityfarm.org - is one project located on the near east side that is working to promote gardening and local food production in a impoverished urban neighborhood. There is always work being needed to help seed, feed and weed.

Arawak City Gardens - is a new project as of right now, there are a few meetings at the Sporeprint planned and on the calendar. Perhaps the participants in that project will utilize this web-site to post more information and even build a thing.

A couple of ideas for this site would be a urban foraging map in which fruit trees and locations of wild plants are mapped out so that people can harvest fruits that are many times left unattended and even seen as a burden by land owners and the like.

Also recipes and other ideas can fit into it.
